Garmin’s new Instinct Crossover watch is packed with fitness and health-focused features. It offers various health monitors like heart rate, blood-oxygen level, body temperature, stress, and sleep quality trackers, along with fitness monitors such as step count, stairs climbed count, running power measurement, and recovery time measurement. The watch also includes sports-specific apps for activities like running and swimming, as well as features like altimeter and barometer for extreme sports enthusiasts.
Notable features include Body Battery, which provides an estimate of your body’s energy level based on metrics like heart-rate variability and stress, and Fitness Age, which compares your body’s health to your actual age using factors like BMI. You can easily track and record these metrics by pairing the watch with your phone and using the Garmin Connect app.
The Instinct Crossover supports multiple navigation systems, including GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo, making it ideal for outdoor activities in areas with limited network coverage. However, enabling these navigation features can drain the battery, so it’s recommended to keep them disabled for regular use. The watch also offers Stealth Mode, which disconnects it from your phone and ensures your location remains private.
Other useful apps like weather reports, calendar, notifications hub, and music control are also available. However, one inconvenience we noticed is that when multiple notifications appear consecutively, the analogue hands of the watch stop showing the time and remain horizontal until manually dismissed by pressing the back button. This can be particularly bothersome when the paired phone receives numerous notifications in a short period.
Despite claims of time accuracy preservation with the RevoDrive technology, we observed that after four weeks of use, the analogue hands of the watch were approximately a quarter-of-a-minute off compared to the digital display.
